![]() Here's a quick-look at my musical background. I picked up a guitar and began to teach myself to play as a teenager in Mendocino, California. What I lacked in skill was made up with volume. Right away though, I knew my future was in music. My formal training began in Southern California. At first, I studied classical guitar for about a year under Robert Vaught at a junior college. I also took training in music theory and voice while attending college. I studied sight reading, music theory, scales, modes and how to use them under the direction of George Sallustio. George is a wonderful guitar instructor and owner of the Charles Music Store in Glendale, California. Altogether, I spent about two years studying under George and was fairly proficient by the time we finished. I took three years of private lessons from Ray Bailey in Los Angeles. With Ray, I continued my education in sight reading, ear training and the behavioral skills necessary to be a good musician. If you'd like to learn more about Ray Bailey, a Google search for "Ray Bailey" blues turns up a hundred references or so. And then, there's the 20 years of teaching students and playing in blues clubs from Caspar, California to Dallas, Texas. I learn something new about music every day. |
